General Director, Opera Festival of Chicago
Opera Festival of Chicago is seeking to appoint its first general director. This person should be a leader who will passionately embrace our mission to bring Italian operatic masterpieces and the experience of Italian opera to the Chicagoland and Midwest region and have the skills and ability to help us to deliver it.

To present world-class standard productions of Italian opera masterpieces in Chicago that rarely grace the stage in the United States.
Opera Festival of Chicago Vision
The Opera Festival of Chicago has been founded to celebrate the rich operatic heritage, culture, and lifestyle of the country that the art form germinated from. We aspire to generate an inquisitive operatic appetite within Chicago and Midwest audiences. We make our work – and its cultural context – accessible to a wide audience. We provide vital opportunities to educate young artists entering the profession with practical performance exposure mentored by world-renowned artists. We highlight and celebrate the immense talent that has originated from the Chicago area.
- Taking care of general administration and development
- Taking charge of fundraising
- Creating applications for grants
- Overseeing the organization of public and streaming events
- Overseeing the overall organization of the Festival
- Finding sponsors to patronize special events
- Reporting to Board
- Staying in contact with present Board members
- Working with Board members to help them recruit new members and donors
- Overseeing the budget,
- Overseeing marketing
- Collaborating with the Music and Artistic Directors to create plans for the Festival
The candidate should have an outgoing personality, be capable of representing the Opera Festival of Chicago in a variety of situations, be a self-starter and follow-through in completing projects, have excellent computer skills with the ability to manage database, social media platforms, design emails and other areas where marketing and communication are important. The ideal candidate will be committed to growing the Opera Festival of Chicago through creative and inclusive programs. The successful candidate will welcome the opportunity to be at the heart of an organization in this crucial stage of its development. They will have an awareness of the issues that American opera companies are currently facing, and have the confidence and skill set necessary to tackle them. This is a part-time position and the hourly remuneration is commensurate with the candidate’s experience.
