Christopher Colmenero, tenor is based in San Francisco and is a current member of the prestigious Adler Fellowship at San Francisco Opera. He made his San Francisco Opera debut in the fall of 2019 singing the role of Maintop in Benjamin Britten’s Billy Budd. During his first year in the Adler Fellowship he also covered the roles of Edmondo (Manon Lescaut), Captain Vere (Billy Budd) and Don José (Carmen) at San Francisco Opera. As a member of the 2018 Merola Opera Program, tenor Christopher Colmenero was featured as Luigi in Puccini’s Il Tabarro for the Schwabacher Summer Concert and performed a scene in the title role of Verdi’s Don Carlo for the Merola Grand Finale concert.
He was a resident artist with Minnesota Opera during the 2016/2017 season, where he sang Froh in Wagner’s Das Rheingold.
In 2016 he returned as a guest artist to his alma mater at Purchase College to sing Judge Danforth in the Purchase Opera’s spring production of Ward’s The Crucible.
Christopher was a 3rd place winner in the 2017 Midwestern Regional Finals and a 2016 Eastern District Finals winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. Other awards include the Giulio Gari Foundation, Gerda Lissner Foundation and the 2014 Richard F. Gold Career Grant.
Christopher holds an Artist Diploma in Voice/Opera from the Mannes College of Music and Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Voice/Opera from the Purchase College Conservatory of Music.
