Stephanie Gubin is a soprano from the northern suburbs of Chicago, and a student of baritone Jeffrey Ray. She received her bachelor’s degree in music performance from the DePaul University School of Music, and has recently returned to DePaul to pursue her master’s in vocal performance. Highlights from her time with DePaul Opera Theater include Lehár’s The Merry Widow (Sylviane), Britten’s The Beggar’s Opera (Suky Tawdry), Cavalli’s L’Egisto (L’Aurora), and Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro (Barbarina). She also had the honor of performing in a masterclass led by Ana María Martínez. In exploring a penchant for early music, Stephanie also had the pleasure of traveling to San Francisco with a small baroque ensemble led by Dr. Eric Esparza and Professor Jason Moy, singing the works of Monteverdi and Pergolesi. She has also sung with opera programs abroad, such as the Berlin Opera Academy, where she performed the role of Second Lady in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, and Sicily, where she performed the role of Musetta in Puccini’s La bohème, with the Mediterranean Opera Studio and Festival. Most recently, she performed the role of Greta Fiorentino in DePaul Opera Theater’s production of Street Scene, by Kurt Weill. She is thrilled to be returning to the Opera Festival of Chicago this summer.
